Keep Athens Beautiful
Keep Athens Beautiful is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers dedicated to
preserving the natural beauty and environment of the community. It is an
affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.
Keep Athens Beautiful partners with schools,
businesses, community organizations and residents to promote beautification,
litter prevention and education.
Annual city wide clean ups take place in
April and November, Adopt-a-Highway volunteers clean up designated areas 4 times
a year and probationers provide Keep Athens Beautiful manpower with monthly
clean ups. The organization has been successful for 20 years and received
numerous statewide awards for its efforts. The results make Athens a cleaner and

Our Mission
Keep Athens
Beautiful works towards a cleaner, more beautiful community by improving attitudes
and behaviors regarding the environment. The Keep Athens Beautiful Board of Directors help guide
program initiatives for sustained and substantial litter reduction,
beautification efforts, and overall community improvement.
Our Goals
- To promote beautification efforts in the community.
- To maintain sustained litter reduction.
- To promote the proper handling of solid waste.
- To enhance environmental awareness through education.
Our Objectives
- Identify and improve areas of general community concern.
- Increase awareness of each individual’s role in taking care of our community.
- Promote adequate maintenance of public and private property.

Beautification Committee projects are the Railroad Park, Beautiful
Yard/Business Awards, Mow City Entrances, Hwy 19 Historical Park, GCAA
Beautification Projects, Fall and Christmas Decorating Contests.
Litter Prevention projects are Fall and Spring Clean Ups, Texas
Recycling Day, Don’t Mess with Texas, Adopt a Hwy and Adopt a Spot, Operation
Clean Sweep, Cigarette Litter Prevention.
Education projects are Arbor Day Poster Contest, Eco Camp, Events at each
School, Recycling Poster Contest, Graffiti Hurts, Waste In Place curriculum
